Common questions
What is the difference between an estimate and a bid?
An estimate is your best calculation of the cost. A bid is a firm offer to do the work for a set price. Say which one you are giving, in writing.
How do I handle changes after the estimate is accepted?
Write each change down with its cost before the work starts, and have the client approve it. Our guide to change orders has a template.
Should I add a contingency?
Many builders add a contingency line for unknowns and show it separately, so the client sees why it is there.
