Which tax calculator do you need?
Most of the countries Invoice Mint is used in charge a goods and services tax (GST) or a value-added tax (VAT) on invoices, but the name, the rate and the reduced rates differ. Each country page starts at that country’s standard rate and lists its other common rates, so you can add tax to a quote or work backwards from a total in a few taps.
The United States has no national sales tax. Rates are set by each state and often by city or county, so use the sales tax and VAT calculator and type your local rate. Hong Kong has no GST, VAT or sales tax, so there is no calculator for it.
Common questions
What is the difference between GST and VAT?
Both are consumption taxes added to the price of most goods and services. GST (goods and services tax) is the name used in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Singapore. VAT (value-added tax) is used in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The calculators work the same way: the tax is a percentage of the price before tax.
How do I take GST or VAT out of a price?
Divide the price including tax by 1 plus the rate. At 10 percent, divide by 1.10, so 110 contains 10 of tax. At 20 percent, divide by 1.20, so 120 contains 20 of tax. The calculators do this when you choose “Take tax out of a total”.
Do these calculators work for any rate?
Yes. Each page starts at a standard rate and offers common alternatives, and you can type any rate in the rate box. For a country that is not listed, use the sales tax and VAT calculator.
