Common questions

How do I split labour and materials on an estimate?

Give each its own line: labour as hours times your rate, or a flat price for the task, and materials as quantity times unit price. Separate lines make it easy to explain a change later.

Should an estimate include a markup on materials?

Most contractors add a markup to cover sourcing, delivery and waste, and show the marked-up price rather than the supplier’s. The markup and margin calculator shows the price for any markup.

How long should an estimate be valid?

Material prices move, so many contractors state a validity period in the notes. Two to four weeks is common.
