Ireland VAT calculator
Add VAT to a price, or find the VAT inside a total, at the standard 23% or a reduced rate.
How VAT works in Ireland
The standard rate of Irish VAT is 23 percent. To add it, multiply by 1.23: 100 becomes 123. To take it out, divide a VAT-inclusive total by 1.23: 123 contains 23 of VAT.
Ireland also has reduced rates of 13.5 percent and 9 percent. Building work and many repair and maintenance services are generally charged at the reduced 13.5 percent rate, but which rate applies depends on the job, so check with Revenue before you quote. A few special categories have their own rates.
Common questions
What VAT rate do tradespeople charge in Ireland?
Construction services are generally charged at the reduced rate of 13.5 percent, not the standard 23 percent. The rate for a particular job depends on the work, so check with Revenue.
How do I take VAT out of a price in Ireland?
Divide the VAT-inclusive total by 1.23 at the standard rate, or by 1.135 at the 13.5 percent rate. For example, 113.50 contains 13.50 of VAT at 13.5 percent.
