Service price calculator
Work out what to charge for a job. Enter your hours, rate and costs, add a profit, and see the price.
How the price is worked out
Labour is your hours times your hourly rate. Add materials and other costs to get your total cost.
Then add a profit markup on top of that cost. The total is the price to put on your quote or invoice.
Common questions
What hourly rate should I charge?
Start from the income you need, add your overhead such as tools, insurance and vehicle, and divide by the hours you can actually bill. That is usually well below a full working week. Our guide to pricing a job walks through it.
What profit markup is normal?
It depends on your trade and competition. Many small service businesses aim for 15% to 30% on top of costs. Check what jobs like yours sell for locally before you settle on one.
Should the price include tax?
This calculator gives the price before tax. If you are registered, add GST, VAT or sales tax on top, for example with our sales tax calculator.
